
The Short-Term Residential Bed Program provides temporary (up to 30 days) residential support in the community. The goal of the program is to assist the individual in accessing long-term support and to help prevent future criminal justice involvement. Our program is part of a larger, city wide initiative. Our partners, Canadian Mental Health Association Toronto Branch (CMHA), COTA Health and the Gerstein Centre, each provide similar services in other parts of Toronto.
Who can benefit?
Women and men, 16 and over, who have a serious mental illness,
are homeless or potentially homeless, are in crisis and have current
involvement with the criminal justice system are eligible.
What are the major benefits?
The benefits of the program are substantial
and include :
- A safe residential alternative to hospital or jail
- On-site support to address current problems
- Crisis intervention
- Crisis prevention
- Assistance accessing long-term supports to
prevent future criminal justice involvement
e.g. supportive housing
- A focus on recovery
