Reconnect Mental Healt Services

Our History

Reconnect began in 1981 as a project to serve discharged psychiatric patients in Etobicoke (especially after the closing of the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital in 1979).  A Day Treatment program, with staff seconded from various agencies, was offered. Early in 1984, the program became a community-based Day Treatment Program, fully funded by the Community Mental Health Branch of the Ministry of Health.  A community Board of Directors was established. The current Board of Directors includes consumers, family members, mental health and business professionals, and other interested community members. A Client Council composed of consumer representatives provides input and direction to the Board, staff and clients.

The legal name of the new program, which was launched in January, 1985, became Etobicoke Mental Health Centre Inc., but the clients chose the name of ReconnectIn 2000, our name was legally changed to Reconnect Mental Health Services. Service providers and clients we have served know us best as Reconnect.
