Diversity Training 101 for the Workplace
Course Outline
Diversity encompasses many aspects of difference, including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, and socioeconomic status. Organizations and communities can create climates encouraging creativity, compassion, and cooperation by embracing and promoting differences. Ensuring equity and inclusion means embracing diversity and overcoming prejudice and structural obstacles.
This training will help participants understand diversity techniques that lead to workplace inclusion, respect, and knowledge. Topics such as bias, intersectionality, and privilege will be discussed, and participants will be able to explore and deliberate on their own experiences in and with diverse environments.
The training will also explore the business and ethical case for diversity and provide examples of how employers can maximize diversity to improve organizational outcomes.
Objectives:
- Develop an understanding of the terms diversity, equity and inclusion
- Explore strategies for implementing the various components of DEI
- Discuss implicit bias and its implications for diversity in the workplace
- Identify and discuss research that supports the business case for diversity
Outcomes:
- Participants will be able to compare and contrast the terms diversity, equity & inclusion
- Participants will be able to give examples of implicit bias, intersectionality and privilege
- Participants will be able to articulate the business case for diversity
Trainer Bio
Bola Faleyimu is a seasoned nonprofit professional with over 20 years of experience in children’s mental health, employment services, and shelter systems supporting women, children, and youth. Holding a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Community Counselling, Bola is currently pursuing a PhD in Leadership and Governance with a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Throughout Bola’s career, she has led change management initiatives, supervised clinical staff, and implemented evidence-based programs to improve service delivery. As a diversity strategist, Bola has contributed to policy development, trained teams in unconscious bias, power, and privilege, and continues to pursue best practices with regard to diversity management.
Bola is a visionary in program implementation, having successfully launched assessment models and collaborative frameworks as well as trained clients and service providers on suicide awareness, mental health, and employment skills.
Recognized for exceptional leadership, Bola has played a pivotal role in performance management, recruitment, and consultation, ensuring that nonprofit organizations thrive. Her commitment to equity and accessibility drives her passion for creating inclusive spaces where communities flourish.
