Reporting to a Program Manager, The Meals on Wheels Coordinator assists in coordinating and monitoring service for the Meals on Wheels program. The successful candidate will in, collaboration with their manager, monitor, support and assist in directing volunteers and program staff, set up service for clients, order meals and maintain appropriate records.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Order meals for the Meals on Wheels department and ensure proper specification of meals to meet clients' special dietary requests;
  • Order, receive, and store food items from suppliers;
  • Takes client call pertaining to Meals on Wheels service i.e., meal additions, restarts, cancellations, frozen meal orders, dietary needs, billing inquires and other issues. Makes follow-up calls as needed;
  • Organize volunteers by combining routes or acquire additional support during shortage of volunteers for MOW delivery as needed;
  • Provides orientation, training, direction and assistance to Meals on Wheels volunteers. Works with Coordinator of Volunteers to schedule volunteer drivers and runners;
  • Assists with dispatching meal delivery;
  • Prepares and submits meal orders to various food suppliers. Communicates with suppliers around special diets and client preferences, etc. as required;
  • Sanitize MOW equipment;
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Volunteer Coordinator regarding MOW deliveries and volunteer drivers regarding schedules;
  • Review delivery routes daily and restructure delivery and driver routes to ensure an efficient delivery process;
  • Maintains and files all required documentation, statistics and records for the department;
  • Backup for Home Support Scheduling portfolio
  • Completes all other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

 

Technical and Behavioral Competencies Required:

  • Community College Diploma in related field;
  • Two or more years related experience; preferably in a health care setting
  • Sound organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and meet conflicting deadlines are essential;
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills;
  • Self-directed and independent, but also experienced in working effectively as a member of multi-disciplinary team, which includes internal and external stakeholders;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to effectively act as an agent for Reconnect with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Applied computer skills (Microsoft Office, Client Information Systems, Scheduling softwares);
  • Fluency in a second language is a strong asset.

 

NOTE: Reconnect requires a criminal background check for all employees, volunteers and students.

 

Workplace Requirements:

  • Generally employees work a 35 hour workweek.
  • Work hours may vary depending on the needs of the clients.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours.
  • Attendance at special events from time to time will be required.
