Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT) is a therapeutic approach that combines principles of cognitive therapy with mindfulness techniques. It is conducted via group sessions and focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and behaviours. Participants learn to observe their thoughts and emotions as passing events without reacting automatically. This includes various mindfulness meditation practices, such as body scans, sitting meditation, and mindful movement. These practices help participants develop greater awareness of their internal experiences and cultivate a nonjudgmental and accepting attitude towards themselves and others. Mindfulness has been found to be effective in reducing the risk of relapse in individuals with recurrent depression. It has also shown promise in the treatment of other mental health conditions, such as anxiety disorders, PTSD, and chronic pain.
